According to Bloody Disgusting, a new project from Blumhouse (THE LORDS OF SALEM, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY) has been set up at Lionsgate called JESSABELLEM with Greutert attached to direct the supernatural tale penned by Robert Ben Garant, known from TV’s “Reno 911!”. Jason Blum will be directly overseeing the project.

JESSABELLEM revolves around “a girl who is forced to return to her father’s home in Louisiana when a car accident leaves her without the use of both her legs. What she finds there is a mystery surrounding her own birth and an angry ghost (named Jessabellem) that seems determined to destroy her.”

Shooting is scheduled for March. Look for more soon!!

Bloody Disgusting reported today that Dimension Films will be distributing HOUSE OF HORROR which is set to be directed by Xavier Gens (THE DIVIDE).  JAMES WAN PRESENTS HOUSE OF HORROR is said to be the first of many “branding projects.”

The House of Horror is a horror-thriller that centers around a gruesome crime scene. The film is shot with a blend of found footage, interrogation video, news cameras and classical cinematography. The film focuses on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home.

We are thrown right into the mix as the lead Detective, Mark Lewis, and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question a suspect. The young man at the center is John Ascot, bound by handcuffs in a mobile command station. During the interrogation John explains everything leading up to the deaths of his friends.

We discover that they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house believed to be haunted. What started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying and more than they ever could bargain for. John explains to the police that he isn’t responsible for his friends’ deaths, but rather, it was the house. He tells them he believes the house is a gateway to hell, a place of concentrated evil.

We slowly witness an eerie change in John’s demeanor through the course of the movie. Things take a disturbing turn when John hints at the notion that he is possessed by the Devil. Detective Lewis and Dr. Klein are forced to unravel the mystery of how John’s friends were murdered. All this leads to a stunning revelation about the man they’ve been interrogating and a gut-wrenching conclusion.

According to Variety, the newly-single Russell Brand  is attached to star in the Paramount and Platinum Dunes film THE HAUNTREPRENEUR which revolves around a family that has trouble adjusting to a new town and hires a peculiar man who calls himself the Hauntrepreneur to help them. In an attempt to bring them together, the man creates a haunted house filled with an odd cast of characters.

Paramount picked up the spec from Scott Rosenberg in October and no doubt will now be looking for a director. Look for more on the THE HAUNTREPRENEUR soon!

The Bloody Disgusting Selects Sundance Midnight entry V/H/S was bought for a reported $1 million and Magnolia is planning a theatrical release of the flick in the fall and eventually on VOD.

One of the first horror flicks to get nabbed is THE PACT and according to THR, IFC Midnight will give  THE PACT a pre-theatrical video-on-demand release which will then be followed by a 12-city theatrical run. It was also reported that IFC Midnight beat out Anchor Bay Entertainment to acquire the film by writer-director Nicholas McCarthy.

THE PACT centers on a woman who returns home to attend her mother’s funeral only to feel something strange and unsettling in the house she grew up in. Caity Lotz and Casper Van Dien star. The project, which had its world premiere last Friday at the Egyptian Theatre, is based on a short film McCarthy screened at the 2011 Sundance fest.
