The director of Gremlins and a fan favorite from the Masters of Horror series, Joe Dante, has a new project lined up for him to helm. Joe Dante will be directing BAT OUT OF HELL for Parallel Films and VooDoo Productions.

The story was written by Drew McWeeny. (no that last name is not a joke) It is about hijackers on a red eye flight coming face to face with some monstrous cargo, perhaps a bat out of hell.

Shooting for the movie is set to begin this year. Amongst the specific names of producers one you might recognize is that of Warren Zide, known most for helping bring the world the sex comedy American Pie.

Wait! This is not the end of Joe Dante news. Apparently Dante is attached to direct yet another flick already as well. Shocktilyoudrop is reporting that they have confirmation he is going to be involved with a movie called THE HOLE. The story follows a family, on the run from their past, who seek shelter in a house where an ominous hole is discovered in the basement. Rumor has it that it is going to be a PG-13 feature.
