Director Patricio Valladares made his first official film in 2006 with “Curriculum.”, which some label as horror, but one might want to officially strip the genre term “horror” from it and just call it an intellectual thriller. It is about two hitmen apparently discussing the woes of their profession as they compete to kill the same girl. However, Valladares is hard at work now with his follow-up film: Departyd
Departyd appears to be specifically more horror based, perhaps in the same vein as “Hostel” types films, yet different with the director citing Cronenberg as one of his influences. The story of the film appears to involve a good looking man who likes to invite women to “party”, which end up being invitations to their own deaths as the man is a sick and twisted individual. The bloody plot is based off of a comic entitled “Party” by Andrea Cavaletto and Stone Bridge Films are helping with production. Serge Francois from Curriculum is attached to the cast already and Danny Trejo is an actor that Valladares is trying to get on board the project as well. Valladares’ first film is still in negotiations for release, however Departyd doesn’t sound like it should have any issues getting a DVD release. - Wes Laurie |
