Chris R. Notarile The Director of Methodic “Methodic tells the story of a boy who becomes demonically possessed by an ominous presence known as "The Dollman". Forced to obey his dark half, the boy ultimately murders his parents on his birthday and is sentenced to a life under a microscope at the state mental hospital. But evil cannot be contained so easily. Instead, "The Dollman" simply bides his time, dwelling within the boy- waiting for the day when he will become powerful enough to completely take over his human host. And when that day comes, god help us all.” After reading that synopsis horror fans are going to need more, and since we can’t go out and see Methodic just yet we’re going to the source: Chris R. Notarile. As the writer and director of Methodic Chris has been hard at work perfecting what could possibly be the world’s first “basher” film. One look at that creepy mask featured in the promotional artwork and we knew we needed a peek into the creative mind responsible. A big thank you goes out to Chris for taking the time for this Q and A and be sure to add the Methodic profile on Myspace to show your support: http://www.myspace.com/methodicmovie You can also check out the IMDB page HERE for more information on each of the cast members. TERRORTUBE: What is the story behind how Methodic was created? “Methodic was created out of my frustration for not being able to remake Halloween for myself. So I took my remake script and removed all the Halloween dialogue and scenes and replaced it with what ultimately became Methodic.”TERROR: It is being called one of, if not THE first ‘basher” film, can you give us some insider information to any particular bashing mode being used? “Our kills are pretty interesting. We use the following: A sledgehammer, a baseball bat, a nine iron, a frying pan, bare hands etc. The point to this was to make the kills as physically brutal as you can imagine.” TERROR: Is this the start of a franchise? “Absolutely. Take one look at the Dollman and tell me otherwise.” TERROR: Any particular praise you would like to bestow upon the cast? “My entire cast deserves the credit for a bang up job on bringing these characters to life. I really appreciated how I barely felt like I was watching someone act. Instead I felt like I was watching real people. That to me is an amazing feeling.” TERROR: I read that a lot of the movie was made in New Jersey, was there plenty of community support in the process? “The community had no idea what was going on. Methodic was filmed so quickly and quietly, we were gone before anyone knew we were there. I take pride in having a production crew that consists of ninjas.” TERROR: There were two screenings of the film in October, can you tell us about each of those experiences? “We screened Methodic at the Sacramento Horror Film Festival on the 20th, and a week later at Breffini's Masquarade party, sponsored by Comics Online. Each screening was amazing in it's own way. The Sacramento screening was the first screening with an audience not familiar with the movie. And their reaction was so very positive. The New York screening, was mainly for the cast and though they were somewhat familiar with the story, they had no idea what to expect. Their reactions were amazing as well. From working for me and not knowing what to make of the movie, whether it would turn out good or not, it was very uplifting to hear them so pleased with the final piece.” TERROR: What is your best guess on possible releasing of the film for full-on public consumption? “I guesstimate the film will be available on DVD or in theaters by spring time. It's too soon to tell, but I'm being very positive.” TERROR: Will a soundtrack be released and who would be composing it? “Our original score was composed by ZminusX and Jason Snell. It will be available on iTunes and most likely will coincide with the release of the film. As for a soundtrack for the movie, we're not entirely sure if that will be separate or included with the score.” TERROR: Has Myspace been a useful tool for you in promoting or do the weirdos like me tracking you down outweigh the benefits? “Myspace is great. The benefits are awesome. I have created such a greater awareness for Methodic on Myspace, way more so than if I had to just do it off my website. Myspace is great because I'm capable of talking with people who anticipate the movie's release and am able to answer their questions. I hate it when someone wants to talk to me and they cannot get in contact with me. Myspace seriously put an end to that.” TERROR: You seem to be a man of many film talents, any particular aspect of filmmaking you enjoy the most? “Directing is my true passion. What other job lets you play God of fantasy? It's great. I get to play with cool toys and tell people what to do all day. You name one other job that lets you do that, then show me where to sign up.”TERROR: Have you ever found something in a movie to actually be scary? “Yes. Ghosts. Friggin terrified of ghosts. Supernatural things scare me because they are things that cannot be manifested in front of me. I'm a people person, serial killers I like because they don't frighten me. They are people, they are real, and as long as I know where they are, I feel safe. Ghosts are different. You can't see them, you don't know where they are, you don't know what they want or what they are capable of. Basically, ghosts represent the unknown, and mankind has always been most afraid of the unknown. So yeah, that's my "unknown", ghosts. So readers, there you have it, if you wanna scare me, you'll have to die first to do it.” TERROR: What are some of your favorite films or filmmakers? “Films- Halloween, Collateral, Sin City, Evil Dead 2 and a whole bunch of others. Filmmakers? Robert Rodriguez, John Carpenter, Tony Scott, Paul Greengrass, Sam Raimi and Edgar Wright.” TERROR: Do you think you will ever sell your soul to Hollywood? “Fuck no. I consider myself an iconoclast. Always have been, always will be. And if I have to wear a shirt that says, "EXIT ONLY" written on the back every time I have a meeting with "Hollywood", so be it. But my soul is mine (plus a few others I currently own) and I wouldn't sell them for anything.” - Wes Laurie |
