The 2007 Razzie awards are sure to honor Lindsay Lohan in some way and if you ask 9 out of 10 critics what they thought about the movie I Know Who Killed Me they will come up with all sorts of witty replies involving what sort of deaths they would rather endure than the film again. However, in all the complaints and gripes about the film you will never hear someone anything bad about actor Jesse Hlubik. You won’t find anyone speaking ill about FBI Agent #2 and that’s just one example of how real talent operates.
Mr. Jesse “The H is Silent” Hlubik was cool enough to let me ask him a few questions, to find out more about his start in the movie biz, his thought on the horror genre, and the future. Be sure to look Jesse Hlubik up on Myspace and IMDB to keep track of where his busy self will pop up next for your viewing pleasure; www.myspace.com/jessehlubik and IMDB HERE
TERROR: Acting as a profession: why?
“I wanted stability. Plus I would go out of my mind doing the same thing for my whole life. Why be a cop when you can be a cop and a robber? A cowboy and an Indian? Well, I guess no one is going to be offering me any Indian parts anytime soon, but you know what I mean.
TERROR: Any ambitions to explore other aspects of the biz?
“I wrote several scripts and am working on another and would like to direct all of them. I've also produced a couple of things and have some more on the way.”
TERROR: I see you did some soap opera work, did you get to go into a coma or kill your twin?
“Better. I did a few episodes of General Hospital where I played a hit man named Fitch who wore disguises. One of which was a clown suit. My assignment was to take out the son of some mob boss at a carnival. I ended up killing a cop named Jesse instead and got shot in the back during the shoot out. I died in the hospital when my boss injected my I.V. bag with poison while I was unconscious, and still in the clown suit.”
TERROR: You were in the Masters of Horror episode Sick Girl, I've never seen it, was it any good?
“I love the episode, but I might be a little biased. We got some great reviews though, so we must have done something right. Rent it, tell me what you think.”
TERROR: You've worked with Lucky McKee more than once: he easy to work for?
“Lucky is great to work with. We've done a bunch of movies together and are always on the same page. He knows exactly what he wants and always shows up prepared. He also hires people that he knows will also show up prepared, which allows things to run as smoothly as they can on a movie set. It allows us to have some fun doing what we're doing, and we always have a blast.”
TERROR: In Naked Beneath the Water did director Sean Cain try to wound you or shave your head; is he a freak or what?
“Sean tried to wound and/or shave everbody's head. He actually ended up having to shave his own.”
TERROR: You worked on I Know Who Killed Me, did you get to party with Lindsay Lohan?
“Sadly, Lindsay was well behaved when I was there. Chris Sivertson, however, partied like the world was coming to an end.”
TERROR: Any upcoming promotional tours, gigs, signings coming up?
“Nothing major, but I'll usually drop in to any horror conventions that happen to be going on when I'm in town.”
TERROR: Is there any sort of acting role that you would turn down immediately?
“I've turned down plenty of crap. Nothing specific, just stuff that I didn't think I would get any satisfaction from, or grow as an actor or as a human being from doing.”
TERROR: Seen any good horror movies lately?
“I've certainly seen a lot of bad ones. I watch one almost every night and I guess at some point, you have to run in to a string of crappy ones. Being a die hard horror fan though, I'd much rather watch a bad horror movie than a good romantic comedy any day.”
TERROR: Finally, tells us about what the future holds for Jesse Hlubik; immediate and otherwise.
“There are several projects that we are prepping for 2008 right now that I'm very excited about. Kevin Ford wrote and will direct a film called Inheridance that will star Angela Bettis and I as husband and wife, along with Lucky McKee, Justin Stone, Lindsay Stone, Marcia Bennett, and Eddie Steeples, among others. This will be a family production, as we've pretty much all known each other and have been working together for quite some time. We'll probably be shooting it in the spring up in Northern California in the town that inspired the story. It's also the town that Kev grew up in. I'm really looking forward to this one. It's a nice blend of comedy and drama, that has a very real feel to it. It's also heartwarming without being sappy, which is incredibly rare.
There are also a handful of horror movies that I'm going to act in and co-produce with Sean Cain and Velvet Hammer Films. The first one is a zombie flick that Sean wrote, which we are scheduling and budgeting at the moment. That might be the first one we do, as we'll be financing it ourselves and have a distribution outlet already in place. Sean also came up with an idea for a trilogy that I'm writing, which will probably come next. We might shoot one at a time or go back to back to back, depending on what kind of time and money we have. There's another script that Sean wrote that we hope will be the beginning of a franchise. I'll be playing the title role alongside some heavy hitters in the genre if the planets align and our investors come through.
I also wrote an infection script that I'm dying to put on film. It's more complicated to shoot than some of the other projects I'm working on, so it may have to wait a little while. I might actually shoot it back east where I'm from. I'm not sure yet. I keep going back and forth.
I'm also supposed to do a Western with Jimmy Williams and another movie with Eric Kepner this year so I should be busy. We might not have the time to make all of these movies in '08, but then I'll have something to look forward to in '09! I pretty much go out of my mind if I don't have a million things going on at once, so I feel pretty good about the near future. I'll find something to do after that. If not, I'm sure something to do will find me.”
