Profile: Actress Bianca Barnett

By Heather Wixson

Growing up in Texas, Scream Queen Bianca Barnett always knew she was destined for something more. So, she stashed away some cash and moved out to LA to pursue her passion- acting.

“When I was about twelve, I started modeling,” said Barnett. “I decided that really wasn’t all I wanted to do so after a while, I began doing extra work on films and TV shows. I just knew working in the entertainment industry was what I wanted so I did everything I could to just learn all the ins and outs of the business.”

Something inside Barnett was always attracted to quirky and strange themes so her migration towards horror and genre films was a natural one.

“My parents ran a sci-fi shop when I was growing up, so I was always exposed to different things,” explained Barnett. “Funny enough, I ended up finding horror on my own though. I would literally rent anything I could that looked like a scary movie. For me, the badder the movie, the better. I love B movies especially.”

“Even though I absolutely love working in horror because it’s been a part of my life for so long, I am always open to any genre really,” added Barnett.

Even though Barnett is a stunning beauty, what really interests her is getting into make-up and the crazier the better.

“I have always thought that make-up and special effects were really cool,” said Barnett. “I tinkered with it a lot as a kid. It’s strange, but I tend to find being put into make-up kind of a relaxing process.”

For Barnett's latest movie, ALBINO FARM (which is set for release sometime in 2009), it required her to spend a lot of time getting "messed up" because her character of Pig Girl had one eye and was horribly disfigured.  The only part of Bianca that was distinguishable was her lower lip.

“I was really hard to see and breathe but it was a total blast,” gushed Barnett. “It was an amazing experience for me because I got to do all my own action sequences which was just really cool to do. I love being challenged when I am on set.”

There are a few actresses’ careers that Barnett both looks up to and would love to one day emulate, Cate Blanchett and Christina Ricci being just two of many; however Barnett is very much grounded in the realities of Hollywood.

“It’s a tough reality that most people don’t even end up becoming a salaried actress in the industry- I mean, not everyone is Angelina Jolie,” said Barnett. “I am definitely not delusional about acting and what can happen so I just need to make sure that I have a back-up plan in place because you never know what’s going to happen.”

Barnett’s back-up plan includes another passion of hers- caring for others. That’s why, in addition to actively pursuing an acting career, she’s also currently a full-time student in nursing school.

In the end though, Barnett knows that it is mainly her hard work and determination that has gotten her ten roles in just a little over 2 ½ years.

“No matter what happens with my career, I will always still just be myself,” expressed Barnett. “I am still kind of this geeky girl who loves horror movies and just tries to appreciate everything that I have and all the hard work of everyone who works on the projects I get to be a part of. I am very lucky.”
