The movie trailer for the third Resident Evil action horror film shows a bleak future with Las Vegas having been swallowed by the desert. Initially it reminded me of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. However, look comparisons aside, the plot for Resident Evil: Extinction involves the heroic Alice, played by Mila Jovovich, and a group of survivors trying to escape the zombie plague unleashed by the Umbrella corporation and get to the safety of Alaska. The previous installments of the series ended with cliffhangers setting up the sequels. After three films of doing a lot of her own stunts it has come into question whether or not Jovovich will do a fourth film. However, it is the intentions of the film creators to keep pushing on, for Extinction also ends with a massive cliffhanger. Producer Jeremy Bolt let this information slip in an interview with MSN Entertainment: “There's a very, very big cliffhanger. I don't want to give it away, but that's one of the things Paul and I are most proud of : each movie, we sort of set up the next.' The Paul he refers to is co-producer Paul W.S. Anderson. Bolt also went on to foreshadow what the idea for number four is: 'We have this idea…the undead in the snow. It could be quite cool.' From the desert to the snow Resident Evil could be heading into a fourth film for the franchise. The third film, Resident Evil: Extinction, is set to be released in theatres September 21st 2007. |
